Rory McIlroy wins Irish Golf Writers' Award

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy can add yet another accolade to his list of achievements after being named Professional of the Year as part of the Irish Writers' Awards.

The 23-year-old, who is currently ranked first in the official world rankings, enjoyed a sensational 2012 that saw him win his second Major tournament and top the money lists on both sides of the Atlantic.

His achievements, which include five victories overall, have seen him win Professional of the Year on three occasions, in 2009 and 2011 - when he shared the trophy with compatriot Darren Clarke.

The awards for amateur golfers were also received by Ulster players, as Alan Dunbar of Rathmore Golf Club was voted Men's Amateur of the Year and Stephanie Meadow claimed the women's prize.

McIlroy recently hinted he may not take part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro due to the fact he would be eligible to compete for either the Irish or Great Britain team.ADNFCR-1532-ID-801518404-ADNFCR
